Trapez analyses gender pension gap

Female pensioners in Austria receive on average more than 38 percent less pension than men. Among newly awarded pensions, the difference was on average 42 percent. A project for more fairness in pensions sheds light on the matter.
LARGE GENDER DIFFERENCES IN PENSIONS

The Gender pension gap (GGP) describes gender-specific differences in retirement income and pensions. Employment interruptions such as maternity leave, income differences and childcare periods also have an impact in old age. By summing up factors over the entire working life of women, the gender pension gap is usually significantly higher than the widely known Gender pay gap, which measures income differences between the sexes.

The Trapez project analyzed Causes and factors of gender differences in pension levels of men and women in Austria and makes the effects visible.

As part of the project, a separate Toolbox which gives entrepreneurs suggestions on how they can support their employees in cushioning the effects of career interruptions and thus take appropriate steps in good time and thus ensure greater pension fairness.
